The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, following repeated cases of student unrest.
The directive comes in response to violent clashes among students, disruption of academic activities, and damage to school property in both institutions.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, stated that the decision was aimed at restoring order and safeguarding lives and property. He clarified that only students currently writing the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers would be allowed into the school premises during the ongoing examinations.
Dr. Olohungbebe also instructed that all SSSCE candidates must wear their school identification cards to gain access to the school compound.
He appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their children remain at home during this period and warned that any student who violates the closure order would be apprehended by security personnel.
The state government reiterated its firm commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring the safety of all students and staff across public schools in Kwara State.
