The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled May 15 for a formal review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following widespread complaints from candidates and stakeholders over alleged discrepancies in the released results.
The development was confirmed in a letter dated May 13 and signed by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s public communication advisor. In the letter, the board invited education consultant Alex Onyi to serve on the panel set up to assess the conduct of the examination and recommend solutions to identified challenges. According to JAMB, the review is part of efforts to maintain public trust in its processes.
The panel includes representatives from the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, chief external examiners, the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria (CPN), and the Educational Assessment and Research Network. Also included are vice-chancellors, polytechnic rectors, college of education provosts, and relevant JAMB support staff. The board noted that participation in the panel would be at no cost to JAMB.
Earlier this month, JAMB released the 2025 UTME results, which showed that over 78 percent of candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 points. The release of the results has sparked public backlash, with over 8,000 candidates reportedly submitting petitions citing technical issues experienced during the exam.
While JAMB maintains that the results reflect actual performance, it has pledged to collaborate with education and ICT professionals to investigate the reported concerns and safeguard the integrity of its examination process. The board urged the public to remain calm and patient as it carries out its review.
