Scholarship Details
The DAAD Africa Scholarship programme – Leadership for Africa (LfA) – offers qualified candidates the opportunity to pursue Master’s degrees at public universities in Germany (excluding programs in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, law, fine arts, and architecture).

In addition to academic study, recipients must participate in the LEAD! Training Programme, which builds leadership capacity in governance, civil society, and career development.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2025 DAAD Africa Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold citizenship from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, or Uganda
  • Have completed a Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Upper)
  • Have completed their last academic degree no more than 6 years ago
  • Have good English or German language skills
  • For refugees: Present a Refugee ID Card issued before April 3, 2024

Scholarship Benefits
The DAAD Africa Scholarship offers:

  • Completed DAAD online application form
  • Curriculum Vitae (max. 3 pages) using the Europass format
  • Letter of Motivation (1–3 pages)
  • Completed Study Course Profile form (list 3 Master’s programs – must be tuition-free)
  • Additional Master’s Degree form (if applicable)
  • Proof of language proficiency for the desired program
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts with grading system explanation
  • Copy of national ID or passport
  • Proof of refugee status (for refugees only – ID card, UNHCR registration, or asylum letter)
  • Optional: Certificates of employment/internships, recommendation letters, extracurricular certificates, expired German admission letters, or former scholarships
