₦30.09bn Earmarked for WAEC, JAMB and NECO in 2026 Budget

Age limit for WAEC and NECO exams

A combined total of ₦30,090,730,004 has been allocated to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the National Examinations Council (NECO) in the 2026 Federal Government budget.

The allocation was disclosed in the summary of the Appropriation Act, which outlines funding for federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

The funds are intended to cover personnel costs, overhead expenses, and capital projects for the three examination bodies, where applicable.

NECO received the highest share of the allocation, amounting to ₦16,930,016,632, which represents 56.3 per cent of the total. Of this amount, ₦15,530,016,632 was earmarked for personnel costs, while ₦1.4 billion was allocated for capital projects. No provision was made for overhead expenses.

WAEC received the second-largest allocation, with a total of ₦6,727,024,208, representing 22.4 per cent of the overall sum. The allocation is divided between WAEC Local and WAEC International.

WAEC Local is to receive ₦5,913,064,668, covering ₦5,489,828,797 for personnel costs, ₦214,054,880 for overhead expenses, and ₦209,180,991 for capital projects. WAEC International will receive ₦813,959,540, which includes ₦515,095,934 for personnel costs, ₦228,808,939 for overheads, and ₦70,054,667 for capital projects.

JAMB’s total allocation stands at ₦6,433,689,172, accounting for 21.4 per cent of the total budgetary provision. The sum covers ₦6,363,689,172 for personnel costs and ₦70 million for capital projects.

Notably, while WAEC received funding for overhead expenses, both NECO and JAMB were allocated no funds for overhead costs in the 2026 budget.
